Resumo
Depois de um início conturbado, e como “há males que vêm por bem”, os participantes do AzLab#53 beneficiaram de um ambiente diferente, reunindo-se em torno da mesa central da sala do ARTIS, numa conversa conduzida por Pedro Ferreira, que permitiu privilegiar o diálogo ao longo de toda a sessão. Começando por mostrar como as suas diferentes histórias se cruzam — a empresa Cortiço & Netos, o colectivo Pedrita, a Associação para a Interpretação do Azulejo Industrial (AIAI) — determinando não apenas o seu envolvimento com a azulejaria industrial mas também a decisão de avançar para um doutoramento nesta área, Pedro Ferreira apresentou o seu objecto de estudo, o azulejo industrial prensado a seco de 15x15cm.
Por entre os objectivos da investigação, foi contando os resultados que já alcançou num percurso que, todavia, ainda tem muito trabalho pela frente. A identificação das fábricas, o estudo dos padrões, a tecnologia de produção dos azulejos, as influências externas, o papel do design, a ligação à tradição e o corte com essa mesma tradição azulejar, a aplicação destes azulejos nas suas diferentes escalas (homem, casa e cidade) foram alguns dos temas abordados, com os convidados a insistir na importância das questões mais ligadas à tecnologia e outras visões de cariz antropológico. No final ficou o pedido expresso para que regresse, daqui a algum tempo, para dar conta dos avanços da investigação!
NOTA: com o AzLab#53 terminaram as sessões de 2019 e, antes do início da sessão, a equipa do AzLab ofereceu duas entradas no Museu Nacional do Azulejo ao participante que completou o calendário com todos os selos do ano. 15×15: INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION OF THE AZULEJO IN PORTUGAL
Session overview
After a troubled start, and as the saying goes “every cloud has a silver lining”, AzLab#53 participants benefited from a different environment, gathering around the central table of the ARTIS room in a conversation led by Pedro Ferreira. Starting by showing how his different stories intersect — Cortiço & Netos, the Pedrita studio, the Association for the Interpretation of Industrial Tiles (AIAI) — determining not only his involvement with industrial tiles but also the decision to move forward with a Ph.D. in this area, Pedro Ferreira presented his subject of study, the 15x15cm dry pressed industrial tile.
Among his research objectives, he was telling the results that he has already achieved in a path that, however, still has much work ahead. The identification of factories, the study of patterns, the technology of tile production, the external influences, the role of design, the connection with tradition and cutting with that same tiling tradition, the application of these tiles at their different scales (man, home and city) were some of the topics addressed, with guests insisting on the importance of technology-related issues and other anthropological views. In the end, there was an express request for his soon return, to report on the progress of his investigation!
NOTE: with AzLab#53 the 2019 sessions ended and before this session began the AzLab team offered two entries to the National Azulejo Museum to the participant who completed the calendar with all the year stamps. Congratulations and thank you for your attendance! In January, on the 6th anniversary of AzLab, there will be a new surprise for 2020!
