PREENCHER VAZIOS
Session Overview
Joana Abreu and the interventions of the project Preencher Vazios (Fill in Voids) filled in the FLUL’s room 5.2 and in the AzLab#32 it was possible not only to know better this initiative, but also to organize and assemble some of the azulejos (tiles) in MDF that, from now on, are applied on three façades of Lisbon.
The session began with an introduction to the project, with Joana Abreu telling how the idea of Preencher Vazios (Fill in Voids) was born (in the context of her dissertation and master’s project work), explaining then how it was developed, both in the academic context and the impact it achieved in broader terms. The idea of filling in the voids of the façades, drawing attention to the problem of the safeguarding of the azulejo (tile), gained a dimension that the author did not expect, but that fulfills the objectives as an artistic intervention with a well-defined heritage consciousness.
In the end, the questions expressed the interest aroused by the presentation, with the assistance wanting to know more details about the façade choices, the options for certain phrases, the intervention criteria, the reactions of people at the time of the collages, among many others.
Finally, Joana Abreu finished some of the tiles she applied yesterday In Lisbon, challenged the public to assemble some of these sets, while projecting images of the façades where they would be placed.
