In this AzLab Cultural Routes each guest presented the route they are in charge for: one of regional implementation and another extending nationwide, both allowing the azulejo to be admired in its original context (the location it was designed for). Alexandra Gago da Câmara referred the territory through which extends Azulejo’s Route in Alentejo, its management model, the coordination between research and dissemination (mentioning the edition of a monograph and of a leaflet), and also the project’s future plans. Sandra Costa Saldanha talked about the management models, the conservation of the cathedrals and the cultural resources. She also mentioned the issues related to the impact that cathedrals have in the community they are in, the collaboration protocols that the Route of the Cathedrals has with several entities, as well as the events they promoted and the objectives of this initiative in what concerns the dissemination, either scientific or for the non-specialized public.
In the debate that followed, moderated by Rosário Salema de Carvalho, it was possible to discuss several subjects, such as the one concerning the preservation of the heritage related to each route, the articulation with other cultural events and the essential issue related to the accessibility to the each route. The growing number of cultural itineraries was another topic of discussion, as well as the itineraries’ management models. To think over this question, also in a perspective of integration and coordination between routes, was considered and strongly advocated.
The conversation also included references to the texts available on the blog, particularly the interviews to the directors of the Rota do Românico and SPIRA, which manages various cultural itineraries (rubric 3 questions to). The questions placed on the blog were answered, and can be read here.
